Poem of Ogof Dan-y-Lleuad Wen

T’was a lovely sunny day
As we strode across the moor
Dan-y-Lleuad Wen
The cave we were looking for

Barry crawled in first
To rig the ladder pitch
The rest of us then followed
To descend without a hitch

We explored an airy chamber
Nooks and crannies well
Some large and scary rocks
Would flatten you if they fell

We slithered down the rift
A rope was mighty handy
Then landed with a bump
In a passage big and sandy

At a nasty wall of boulders
There was once a cunning plan
To find a way on through them
But they nearly squashed poor Jan

Into an awkward rift
Barry Liam and Ann went through
Kingsley tried then he sighed
Then the air turned blue.

His bum was well and truly trapped
You could hear his mournful cries
That hip the doctor gave him
Was obviously a larger size

Then a foot got wedged beneath a rock
“I’m stuck” we heard him shout
So Jan did push and Ann did pull
‘Till we got the bugger out

Paul thought it looked quite grim
It’s really not that wide
“I want to get back home tonight
So I think I’ll stay this side”

Barry and Liam went on
“Wait for me” we heard Ann say
At a choke they removed some rocks
I think Pwll Swnd’s this way

Back into the nasty rift
And stuck just like before
“Oh bloody ‘ell” was Kingsleys’ yell
“I aint coming ‘ere no more”

Another draughting passage
Another bouldery wall
Barry and Liam got busy
Helped along by Paul

They picked and scraped the mud and rocks
As only diggers can
Though sadly never did they find
Caverns measureless to man

Back up the rope and ladder pitch
And out into the sun
Those five crazy cavers
Had certainly had some fun.
